PRACTICAL INFORMATION

General Camp Information:

  • Dates: The camp will take place from 31st July to 5th August 2025.

  • Location: Brekkulegan 2025 will be held in Leirvík, Faroe Islands. The campsite is located on Brekkuvegurin, which gives the camp its name, “Brekkulegan.” Activities will take place throughout the country.

Age Groups:

  • Participants: Born between 2008 and 2013.

  • IST Members: Born 2007 or earlier.

  • Leaders: 20 years or older.

  • Helpers: For Faroe Islanders only, age 18 or older.

Accommodation:

  • Dormitory: Before and after the official camp days, dormitory accommodation is available for participants who wish to arrive early or stay later. Please note, the dormitory accommodation incurs an additional fee and does not include meals. More about this can be seen on our page "travel information"

  • During the Camp: All participants, along with their patrol leaders, will sleep in tents at the campsite. Participants are required to bring their own sleeping bags, mats, and other personal sleeping gear.

  • Separate Areas: Each patrol will have their own designated area, measuring approximately 120 square meters. This space is sufficient for multiple tents, a cooking area, and for constructing pioneering projects like an entrance portal. Participants must remain within their assigned patrol area. Helpers and IST members will sleep indoors, separated by gender and away from the participants.

Meals and Food:

  • For Participants: Participants will be responsible for preparing their own meals. Ingredients will be provided for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Cooking will be done as a group within their patrols.

  • For Helpers and IST: Meals will be provided for helpers and IST members in a separate dining area.

  • Dietary Restrictions: Dietary preferences and allergies will be collected during the second registration phase when participants pay the camp fee. Special accommodations will be made for individuals with specific dietary needs, and, if necessary, pre-made meals will be provided.

Health and Safety:

  • Medical Support: We will have 24/7 medical assistance available, provided by paramedics. Additionally, there will be a doctor available throughout the camp. In case of emergencies, participants will be transported to the nearest hospital.

  • Health Information: Medical information (e.g., allergies, chronic conditions, medications) will be collected during the second registration phase.

  • Emergency Procedures: In the event of an emergency, there will be a designated meeting place for all participants. Emergency contact numbers for the camp will be provided, as well as the national emergency number for the Faroe Islands, 112.

Packing List:

Participants should be prepared for a wide range of weather conditions, including rain, wind, and cold temperatures. The official packing list will be provided closer to the camp, but here are some essentials:

  • Clothing: Be prepared for rain, cold, and wind. Even in summer, the weather can be unpredictable, especially for participants coming from warmer climates.

  • Camping Gear: Participants will need to bring their own tents, cooking equipment, backpacks, and scout uniforms. We are in discussions with DDS in Denmark to potentially rent patrol supplies, including tents, cooking gear, and first aid kits for a fee. If not, patrols will need to bring their own gear, and we will assist with transport logistics to ease this process.

  • Special Equipment: Swimming gear and hiking shoes are highly recommended as these will be needed for several activities.

  • Personal Items: Bring all necessary personal items, such as water bottles, toiletries, and any additional camping gear you may need.

Camp Schedule:

Each day at Brekkulegan 2025 will follow a general schedule:

  • Morning: Flag raising, breakfast, followed by the first activity of the day.

  • Lunch Break: Lunch will be prepared and eaten as a patrol.

  • Afternoon: The second activity session takes place after lunch.

  • Evening: Dinner, followed by a campfire and social time.

  • Bedtime: After the campfire, quiet hours will begin in the camping areas, and there will be a set time for participants to go to bed.

Each day will be themed:

  • Adventure Day

  • Back to Basics Day

  • Hike Day

  • Culture Day (details and schedule to be announced later)

Additionally, there will be on-site activities at the campgrounds, as well as a Scout Village, which will serve as a hangout spot for participants. The Scout Village will feature a kiosk and other amenities, and will host some activities.

Participation Fees:

Participants are responsible for paying a registration fee, the camp fee, and additional fees if the patrol chooses an activity that coasts.

All payments are due before the camp begins, and more information is available on the registration and activities sections of our website.

  • Extra Costs: There will be a store available in the nearby village, along with a bowling alley, scout shop, snack stand, and hopefully some food trucks for participants who wish to purchase additional items.

Rules and Behavior:

  • Camp Rules: While the final list of camp rules is still being finalized, participants are expected to follow standard scouting behavior codes, including respect for others and their surroundings. Quiet hours will be enforced after the campfire, and a curfew will likely be set for when all participants must go to bed.

  • Electronics: Electronics are permitted but will be managed by each patrol leader. Charging stations will be available on-site.

Exchanging badges and neckerchiefs:

It is also common at such camps to bring various badges, which can be exchanged with other scouts from around the world.

It is also typical to bring extra neckerchiefs, so you can swap your neckerchief with that of another scout.
